Extraordinary Nurse Recognized at Evanston Regional Hospital

Evanston, WY (February 26, 2026)Daron Shelton, RN of Evanston Regional hospital was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

The nomination submitted read “While traveling through the area my husband experienced chest pain and we were near Evanston Regional Hospital. Daron and all the staff in the ER were competent in diagnosing heart attacks, she was very kind and reassuring. My husband was sent to SLC where he received a stent inserted in an artery. We will forever be grateful to the ER staff there.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Evanston Regional Hospital are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

Said Chief Nursing Officer Amy Downing, “We are proud to recognize Daron Shelton as a DAISY Award recipient for exemplifying the highest standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care. Daron embodies our value “Results start with me”. She consistently goes above and beyond for patients and families. This recognition reflects not only exceptional skill and professionalism, but also a deep commitment to putting patients and families at the center of everything we do. We are honored to have nurses like this on our team, whose dedication truly makes a difference in our community. “
