Sleep Medicine Center
Are you sleeping well? Waking up rested? If not it could pose a more serious health threat than you think.
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to your overall health, safety and quality of life. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.* With over 80 types of sleep disorders, it’s easy to see why so many of us aren’t getting the sleep we need.
The Sleep Medicine Center at Evanston Regional Hospital specializes in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders such as insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and snoring. A sleep study monitors your sleeping patterns to determine why you may be having problems. Your doctor may suggest this treatment if you experience long-term sleeplessness or other recurring problems.
And, remember, having your sleep study done here in Evanston, rather than somewhere at a lower altitude, means you get a more accurate reading.
The Sleep Medicine Center is nationally accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Physician Referral for Hospital Sleep Study
For a hospital sleep study, you’ll stay overnight at the hospital in comfortable, home-like, private room. Bring anything you may need to feel comfortable and ready to sleep. A technician will apply electrodes to record sleep stages, eye movements, heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, leg movements, and snoring. By monitoring the electrodes, the physician determines if a sleep disorder is present. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time to register at the hospital registration desk.

At-Home Sleep Study
Some patients prefer to sleep in their own bed for their sleep study or have a chronic illness that makes spending a night away from home difficult. Evanston Regional Hospital also provides home sleep tests that you can self-administer.
